The Venture team has worked with TVNZ since 2003. During that time we have undertaken
a number of commercial and regulatory projects for the broadcaster.
For much of this time Television New Zealand was operating under a hybrid Charter
that required it to both act commercially (its Crown shareholder expects a dividend payment each year)
and to meet is (not strictly commercial) public service broadcasting charter objectives.
Several of the projects we have completed have been to help the broadcaster explain this tension
to its (Government) shareholders. For example, the team developed a reporting

framework that allowed TVNZ to track
its performance against its Charter obligations. The team also assessed
the financial impact of increasing Charter-related programming into peak commercial slots.
During the last five years, the team has also helped TVNZ to review its international sales strategy,
to develop its DTT plans, to launch Freeview and to select the appropriate compression technology for
its terrestrial offering, to review its digital switchover strategy and to develop regulatory
submissions to Government. |
